Drive into a Sustainable Future with Electric Vehicles… Get Rewarded!

As British Columbia continues to push forward with its green initiatives, the shift towards sustainable living is placing homeowners, strata councils, and property management companies at the forefront of this transformative movement. Electric vehicles (EVs) stand out as a key element in this transition, offering significant environmental and economic benefits. Integrating EV technology across different property types is streamlined with expert installation services and attractive government rebate programs.

Government Rebates and Incentives: A Boost for Broad Adoption

British Columbia supports the installation of EV charging stations with substantial rebates, reducing financial barriers across various property types. Programs like the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate offer up to 50% off the purchase and installation costs, making the switch to electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for homeowners.
For strata buildings, the EV Ready Plan Rebate is particularly crucial. It assists with the costs associated with planning and deploying EV chargers, ensuring that more residents have easy access to charging options. Property management companies can leverage up to $130,000 in incentives to provide added value to their clients and facilitate the transition towards greener living spaces.

Low Cost of Ownership and High Returns

The ownership costs of EVs are impressively low compared to traditional vehicles. Electric vehicles require less maintenance due to having fewer moving parts, which means fewer mechanical issues and lower maintenance costs. The reduced cost of electricity, compared to gasoline, along with the durability of electric engines, further decreases the lifetime cost of ownership.

Economic and Environmental Benefits for All Property Types

For homeowners, the addition of an EV charger can significantly enhance property value while bolstering environmental sustainability. This upgrade not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels—thereby decreasing air pollution and lowering greenhouse gas emissions—but also offers a quieter, cleaner, and cheaper transportation alternative.
Strata councils benefit from incorporating EV charging solutions by making their properties more attractive to eco-conscious residents and future buyers, enhancing communal value and appeal. For property management companies, promoting and facilitating EV charger installations can set their managed properties apart in a competitive market, offering a modern amenity that attracts premium tenants and buyers who are willing to pay more for sustainable options.

Essential Pre-Approval for EV Charger Installations

As we transition towards a more sustainable future, the installation of EV car chargers has become a crucial consideration for strata companies and workplace properties. However, it is important to note that you can no longer install EV chargers without obtaining pre-approval from BC Hydro.
Part of this essential process involves having a BC Hydro-approved Electrical Contractor develop an EV Ready plan for your building. This plan not only ensures compliance but also makes you eligible for substantial rebates, making the investment more economical.

Provincial Rebate Options

To help apartment, condo, and townhome complexes get ready to support EVs, there are two provincial rebate options:

1) EV Ready Rebates:

  • EV Ready plan rebate: Covers up to 75% of the costs, to a maximum of $3,000, for creating an EV Ready plan—a professional strategy for your building to make at least one parking space per residential unit EV Ready.
  • EV Ready infrastructure rebate: Covers up to 50% of costs to install the electrical infrastructure required to implement your EV Ready plan, to a maximum of $600 per parking space, and a project maximum of $120,000.
  • EV charger rebate: Covers up to 50% of costs, up to a maximum of $1,400 per charger to purchase and install Level 2 networked EV chargers to implement your building’s EV Ready plan, to a maximum of $14,000.

2) Standalone EV Charger Rebate for Apartment, Condo, and Townhome Complexes:

  • EV charger rebate: Covers up to 50% of the costs, up to a maximum of $2,000 per charger to purchase and install a Level 2 networked EV charger at the residential parking spaces in your complex, to a maximum of $14,000.
  • To be eligible, pre-approval from BC Hydro is required before purchasing and installing an EV charger.
